At once secluded and connected, Rock Skis offers a layered mountain experience—where ski tracks lead to stone thresholds and forest views filter into every room.
Carved into a steep, forested hillside above Mountain Village, Rock Skis is a home shaped by its rugged terrain and rare ski-in location. The site—narrow, densely wooded, and bordered by a spring-fed wetland—offered both challenge and opportunity. The design responds with a stepped composition anchored by a grounded stone base, rising upward into wood and glass volumes that open to filtered light and views through the trees. A lower-level garage and entry are tucked into the slope, while the main living spaces sit just above, unfolding toward the ridge.
The vertical organization makes full use of the site’s topography, offering a strong connection to grade while maintaining a sense of privacy and retreat. Material choices—native stone, timber, steel—are honest and weathering, blending the home into its surroundings over time. With direct ski access from the back of the property and protected wetlands below, Rock Skis balances its contemporary form with a deep respect for the land—both shaped by and sheltering within it.
