Log and Steel Lodge is nestled into a wooded ridge within the Telluride Ski Resort, conceived as a retreat that seems to grow from the hillside itself. After early studies and feng shui consultations, the approach was reoriented to rise gently from below along a remnant of the historic Boomerang Road, preserving the site’s mature trees and natural clearing. The rooflines follow the slope of the land, while two stone masses anchor the structure to the ridge. Between them, upper bedrooms and offices bridge under a sweeping tent-like roof, supported by Douglas fir beams and log columns that recall a procession of torii gates.
