Radial Sheds (Caton) is a modern retreat in Mountain Village, where native trees, shifting light, and the slope of the land shape a home rooted in place and time.
Radial Sheds was shaped by sensitivity to its site—where trees, light, and topography guided every decision. Access was carefully positioned to preserve a grove of native trees, while stone forms create privacy and direct the experience inward and toward the view. The design draws from historic rural structures—simple gabled volumes, grounded stone masses, and a material palette chosen to weather with grace. Rooflines peel back to extend light and space, while the composition suggests a place that has grown naturally over time.
Radial Sheds is an exercise in clarity, intention, and connection—designed to endure quietly, in rhythm with its surroundings. Through the seasons, inside and out, the Caton residence tells a story of harmony with nature—a reflection of living in balance with the world around us. Nestled in Mountain Village, this home honors the land and its history. Inspired by a nearby barn, we reimagined traditional Western forms with a modern touch, using indigenous materials and embracing the natural topography. Each angle frames the San Sophia Ridge, capturing light and life as they flow and evolve throughout the year.
