Rooted in Colorado ranching traditions, Hanna Ranch blends stable and home into a modern vernacular, framing sweeping mesa views and a timeless dialogue with the mountains.
Hanna Ranch sits atop Specie Mesa, where the landscape opens to sweeping vistas of the San Juan Mountains. Rooted in Colorado ranching traditions, the design draws from the vernacular of working ranch structures with simple forms, honest materials, and a direct relationship to the land. At its core, the project integrates a stable and residence into a cohesive whole, where function and dwelling are inseparable. Natural stone, weathered siding, and exposed steel connect the architecture to the rugged mesa, while large openings frame panoramic views and flood the interiors with light.
The stable becomes more than a utility; it is celebrated as an essential element of ranch life, grounding the home in place and tradition. Together, the stable and residence form a modern interpretation of ranch vernacular, embracing contemporary living while honoring the rhythms of the land. Hanna Ranch is both working and retreat, a place where the expansive mesa and towering peaks enter daily life, creating a timeless dialogue between home, stable, and the mountains beyond.
