Senate Redux renews a historic brick structure, pairing subtle upper additions and utilitarian detailing with the enduring presence of the original.
The Senate building, a historic masonry structure, has been carefully restored and reimagined as a duplex with commercial space below and residential living above. A discreet second-story addition is set back to reduce visual impact while preserving pedestrian scale.
A shed-form volume extends to the west to house the master suite, with a carport tucked beneath. Materials are deliberately utilitarian, ensuring the new work remains subordinate to the character and presence of the original brick.
Senate Redux honors the building’s historic role in Telluride’s fabric while adapting it to contemporary needs—blending preservation with thoughtful renewal.
